A-Z Prayers for Missions September: "H" - Humility

Jesus exhibited humility throughout his life, telling his disciples that He came not to be served but to serve.  Pray that our missionaries would serve in this same spirit of humility, considering the needs of those they serve as more important than their own ego and material gain.

Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. (Philippians 2:3).

One of the purposes of Freedom Church is to communicate the saving message of Jesus Christ both here and away. There are many opportunities for you to participate in this at Freedom. It could be volunteering with a group that is sorting turkeys at John 3:16 Mission in Tulsa, lending a “hand” in a puppet show in a Mexican village or breaking boards in a karate demonstration in the jungles of Cambodia.

Upcoming Mexico Mission Trip

Please pray for our Mission team going to Veracruz, Mexico September 17-25 2010.  They will be making improvements to a church building including electrical, plumbing, painting and tiling.  They will also be training pastors in two locations on Spiritual Gifts and Spiritual Leadership.

Upcoming Cambodia Mission Trip 2011

A mission trip to the Children’s Center in Poipet, Cambodia is scheduled for June 2-11, 2011.  The trip will focus on a VBS for the children/neighborhood and pastoral training.  Cost for this trip will be around $2000 per person.  If interested, please contact Andrew@freedom-church.com.

Campus Crusade For Christ

Joanna Kelley, a graduate of OSU and a member of Freedom Church, has spent the past nine months working with Campus Crusade For Christ at OSU.  She has spent her days investing in the lives of students so that they might walk with God for a lifetime.  She has been blessed to have a "front row seat" to see God's creative and redemptive work in students' lives.

There is a change coming up though . . . . starting in September Joanna will be living in Berlin, Germany for one year, continuing her work with Campus Crusade, but on a German university campus!  This will be a huge step of faith to live in a place where few people know Jesus or have a relationship with Him, and few people even have the desire to hear about His relevance in their lives. But God is at work and she is excited to embark on a new adventure with the Lord.  Please pray that the lives of German students will be transformed by the Gospel, and that Joanna's own life will be changed and molded as she puts her trust and hope in God during this next chapter of her life.  If you would like to receive updates from Joanna, please e-mail her at joanna.rkelley@gmail.com to subscribe to her newsletter. Copies of her newsletter are also available in the Mission Hall at church.

Cambodia Mission Trip 2010

A mission team went to Cambodia March 11-20, 2010.  This year’s trip focused on ministry to the children of the new orphanage in Poipet.  The Children’s Center in Poipet has come a long way.  Our team helped paint, clean-up from the construction work and put up a swing set that was very popular with the kids and neighborhood.

A VBS was held for the kids and neighborhood.  The first day there were 150 kids, the second had 295, and the third had about 310.  It was a very successful outreach to the community and to the kids.  Much time was spent just playing with the kids: checkers, washers, puzzles, books, bubbles, drawing, sidewalk chalk, songs, roasting marshmallows, etc.  The kids presently at the facility were in overall good health and were demonstrating some excellent character in politeness, leadership, and service.  Virtually all of the kids participated fully in the Sunday morning worship time: singing, prayer, testimonies and a short Bible story.

After seeing the facilities, the programming and structure, and the children, it is easy to see that this investment in the lives of these orphans and vulnerable children was not only the right thing to do, but it is being carried out in the right way.  Lives are not just salvaged, but changed.  Steve, Noit, and the Words of Life team send their blessings to their Freedom family.

Mexico Backpack Program

This year and in 2009 Freedom partnered with Mexico Missions Inc. to assist with their annual backpack program. Last year a group also traveled to Mexico to participate in five outreaches where they shared the gospel with kids and adults and gave away approximately 250-300 of the backpacks that Freedom helped to provide.  We pray that we can help this ministry to continue to grow next year.

Freedom Orphanage Project

In 2009 we raised $103,074.50 for the Freedom Orphanage Project!  The orphanage in Poipet, Cambodia can house 100 children and was completed and dedicated in June 2010.

Around the World

In the past two years members of Freedom have gone on missions to the countries of Cambodia, Thailand, Gambia, Philippines, China, Mexico, Cuba, Nepal and the USA.
